Big News: Toocheke Companion Can Now Auto-Post Your Comics to Bluesky!
- Toocheke Companion
I’m excited to announce a brand-new feature in the Toocheke Companion that helps you get your comics in front of more readers without any extra work: automatic Bluesky posting.
With Bluesky quickly becoming one of the go-to places webcomic creators hang out and share their work, I wanted Toocheke to make sharing posts there completely effortless. Now, whenever you publish a new comic or manga chapter, it can go straight to your Bluesky account โ no copy-pasting links, no manually attaching images, no remembering to do it at all.
๐ฅ What’s New in Toocheke Companion
The latest version introduces Bluesky Auto-Posting, which lets you:
- Automatically share comics and manga chapters to Bluesky the moment they go live
- Choose between two post styles: a clean link card (title, description, and image in a preview card) or a text post with an embedded image
- Write your own message template, so every post has your unique voice
- Optionally re-share older comics from your archive at a schedule you set, so new readers keep discovering your back catalog
- Decide, on a case-by-case basis, whether a manually-published post gets shared โ so you’re always in control
Best of all, once it’s set up, it just runs in the background. Publish your comic like you always do, and Bluesky takes care of itself.
โก Why This Matters for Independent Creators
If you’re publishing your webcomic on your own WordPress site, you already know that half the battle is getting people to actually see your new pages. Social media is where a huge amount of that discovery happens โ but manually posting to every platform every time you update takes real time out of your day, time you’d probably rather spend drawing.
This feature helps you:
- Stay consistent on Bluesky without lifting a finger after publishing
- Bring new life to older comics through random archive re-posting, so your first chapter isn’t stuck at the bottom of your site forever
- Keep full control, since nothing gets posted twice and you can always choose to share (or not share) a manual publish
๐ ๏ธ How to Set It Up
Getting connected only takes a couple of minutes.
- In your WordPress admin area, go to: Toocheke โ Options โ Bluesky
- Enter your Bluesky Handle (e.g.
yourname.bsky.social). - Enter your Bluesky App Password. ๐จ Important: This is not your regular Bluesky password! You’ll need to create a dedicated App Password first โ you can generate one here: bsky.app/settings/app-passwords. Toocheke will let you know if this hasn’t been set up yet, right on the same screen.
- Click Test Connection to confirm everything’s linked up correctly.
- Turn on “Post comics to Bluesky?” and/or “Post manga chapters to Bluesky?” โ whichever applies to your site.
- Choose your Post Format: a link Card, or a Text + Image post with your own message template.
- (Optional) Turn on Random Archive Posting if you’d like Toocheke to occasionally re-share an older comic or manga chapter, on whatever schedule you choose.
- Click Save Changes.
That’s it โ you’re connected! ๐
๐๏ธ Overriding a Publish, or Sharing a Comic Again
Once Bluesky posting is turned on for comics or manga chapters, you’ll notice a small Bluesky box on the right side of the editor whenever you’re publishing a new update.
- Scheduling a comic? Nothing extra to do โ it’ll be shared to Bluesky automatically the moment it goes live.
- Publishing manually right now? You’ll see a “Post to Bluesky Now” checkbox. Check it if you want this specific comic shared; leave it unchecked if you don’t. This is also what keeps you safe from accidentally posting the same comic twice if you ever unpublish and republish something.
- Need to share it again later โ maybe you deleted the post over on Bluesky, or it never got sent the first time? Once a comic is published, that same box shows a “Post to Bluesky Again” button, so you can send it whenever you like, no strings attached.
๐โโ๏ธ Why I Added This Feature
So many of you have told me Bluesky is where your readers are hanging out these days, and I wanted Toocheke to meet you there โ without adding yet another task to your plate every time you publish. Comics take enough work to make; sharing them shouldn’t be one more thing on your to-do list.
๐ฌ Feedback Welcome
If you give the new Bluesky posting feature a try, I’d love to hear how it works for your comic site. Your feedback always helps me have a better sense of what features you would love to have in Toocheke.
Thanks again for supporting Toocheke and being part of the community! ๐ค
Happy Tooning!
